The story of

In april 2002 the vineyard was born. Approximately ~3500 branches of Tinta Roriz, Cardinal, D.Maria were planted.  Under strict approval of the Instituto National Intervinçao E Guarantia Agricola  Lisboa. (INGA).

Financial support was given by the IFDAP (Instituto de Financiamento Agricultura e Pescas). The domain is part of the zona de caça associativa /local hunting area.

Soil

Soils vary greatly through out the sub-regions and include: schist, pink marble,
granite, and limestone, often laid upon a sub-layer of water-retaining clay.

The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and the characteristics of its own soils end up influencing the birth of very original wines, marked by a refreshing natural acidity and great minerality.

Climate

Rainy/windy Spring, Hot and dry Summers, warm Fall and fresh Winters.

A backbone of hill and mountain ranges offer some protection to many eastern parts of the Lisboa region.

Grapes

Torres Vedras (to the cooler, windier east of Alenquer), relaxed their grape restrictions in 2002 to allow some new national and international grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Franca, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

Solar

In the Summers in our area the temperatures ranges from 22 ° C to 32 ° C  and during the wintertime between 5  ° C and 15 ° C.

The average annual temperature in mainland Portugal ranges from 12 ° C in the hilly northern interior to 18 ° C in the south.

Vineyard

Most of our grapes come from our own terroir. Grapes can ripen well, and red wines especially can be top class. The techiques used provide less volume per acre but provide a better quality grape.  Some of our varietals are added from a number of cooperating wine estates located between Torres Vedras and Alenquer.

Winery

For the production we have a partnership with two different wineries. Both equiped with the latest modern vinification equipment and a backbone of family expertise dating from 1925.

The Location

Bitmap

Lisboa is a long, thin region running up beside the Atlantic. Wind is inevitably a strong feature beside the coast – no wonder that these undulating hills bristle with windmills, and no wonder that coastal vines are wind-stressed and hard pressed to ripen their grapes.

Just a little way inland, however, a backbone of hill and mountain ranges offers some protection to many eastern parts of the Lisboa region. Here in the Torres Vedras Regio, lies Vinha Do Cercado.
